Lung Cancer

What is lung cancer?
Lung cancer starts when abnormal cells grow out of control in the lung. They can invade nearby tissues and form tumors. Lung cancer can start anywhere in the lungs and affect any part of the respiratory system.

The cancer cells can spread, or metastasize, to the lymph nodes and other parts of the body.

Lung Cancer Care at St. Luke’s Cancer Institute

St. Luke's Cancer Institute offers you world-class expertise unmatched in this region with treatment options including chemotherapy, radiation, and advanced surgery by a fellowship-trained thoracic oncology surgeon. With a cancer diagnosis, you want a team of skilled, insightful caregivers on your side—focusing their energy just on you, easing symptoms and side effects, and strengthening you physically, mentally, and emotionally. You’ll also have access to national clinical trials.

If your lung screening has shown something suspicious, our thoracic nurse navigator will walk you and your primary care provider through next steps and further testing to ensure we're able to make an accurate diagnosis. And, if you are diagnosed with lung cancer, the nurse navigator will guide you and your family as you enter treatment, making sure you receive the resources and support you need.
